My wife is expecting twins and is due early October. Safe to fly 3000 miles with them in late Decemb

One of my best friends is getting married in late December in New Jersey and we live in California. I'm in the wedding party, so definitely will be going. My parents would love to have us and babysit while we're visiting and at the wedding, but we're still trying to decide if we should book tix for my wife as well, since we're concerned that the kids will be a hair under 3 months at that time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

flying with them won't be a problem it's just their health you need to worry about. if she goes full term and they are 100% healthy when they are discharged from the hospital they can travel.

i was 1yr5mos and my brother was 3mos when we had our first airplane ride moving from washington state to ny state

I think it's more of a wait and see thing. My girls were 3'10 and 4'10 when they were born and when they came home after a 12 day stay in the NICU. I wouldn't have taken them that far but that was me.

Wait and see if your wife delivers early. A lot of twins are born early. Good luck with everything. Double trouble. Wait til they're two..it's soooooooo much fun lol.
I would wait and see but you should know that babies have a *very* hard time on airplanes due to the pressure changes. I can't imagine dealing with 2.

Maybe your Dr can recommend something.
if the flight isn't too long you should be ok. i would suggest flying first class to avoid interruptions from rude people on the plane. also, first class can also be roomier and i don't think you're charges for baby seating. i know it would be more expensive but probably less of a headache. also, you're wife may need a c section so make sure she is fully healed before you guys fly. another tip. go jogging with them in a stroller to get them used to jerks and stuff in case the plane hits turbulence.
Normally, doctors will advice to wait at least 2 months just to give time for baby's immune system to work. Newborns almost always end up in the hospital once they get sick this young.

With twins, you have to be especially careful becase your twins may be born early. Preemies are at a higher risk for many things that won't really even bother term babies - a common risk for preemies is RSV. RSV almost always sends babies in the hospital. RSV just causes sniffles for healthy kids and adults, but causes respiratory problems with preemies.

But also, just so you know, there is RSV antibody shots available. My twins were born 6 1/2 weeks early and were on the RSV shots for 6 months through the winter.

Another thing to be prepared for is that twins attract a whole lot of attention. Normally parents eat up the attenion (including me and my husband) but it's a whole different ball game when people touch the babies (again, especially if they are preemies).

Planes are breeding grounds for all sorts of viruses since air gets recirculated over and over... so be warned and take precautions. Make sure your babies have had all the shots they can get.

Other than health concerns, it's actually pretty easy to travel with young babies because all they really do is sleep. So if you and your wife each have a baby and have a bottle (or boob) your ride should be fairly unevenful.

Good luck.
